Lima

The flight was fantastic and worth every penny, delicious food and a wonderfully comfortable "bed" which had massage facilities, the lot.  6 stewards to cater for the needs of about 25 people.  Really looking forward to the trip home.

But for now, we are in Peru.  Lima is a lovely city, loads of green spaces and really really clean.  Today we toured the historic old town and visited the archaeological museum.  Amongst other artefacts on display was this shrunken head.

We then visited a 7th century adobe and clay pyramid and a supposedly famous statue "The Kiss" (not Rodin's).

We were very close to the sea but unfortunately there was a thick mist and we could see nothing whatsoever so we headed for lunch in a local restaurant for lunch.  The group is down to 6 plus our tour manager = Derek from Essex = as it seems the other couple due to join us are still on the Galapagos as the chap had a fall.  Still the others seem OK and we spent a jolly lunch together tasting Pisco Sours (not to my linking, but unsurprisingly Ian rather enjoyed them.

Basic Ingredients:  Pisco (colourless brandy), egg white, lemon juice and syrup.

We had dinner in a restaurant just around the corner from our hotel and then wandered along a pedestrianised road where couples of all ages were dancing (maybe tango).

Tomorrow we leave the hotel at 0445 to fly to Puerto Maldonado and then on by boat to the Amazon jungle.  We are limited on luggage so probably won't be able to take the laptop with us.  Our next post will hopefully be Wednesday when we return to civilisation.
