Disappearing Blog

Thank you to everyone who contacted us to say our Blog has disappeared.  It wasn't anything interesting like being kidnapped or Dengue Fever, simply gmail getting nervous because I kept logging in from different countries and so they blocked my account.  Took a little while to sort it out  but hopefully we're up and running again.

Our hotel is beautiful, located within the national park on the Argentine side and offers an excellent view of the La Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) – the most impressive of all the falls.

Breakfast on the terrace was amazing and we had the company of this delightful Toco Toucan.

After breakfast we visited the Argentine side and firstly took a short Wally Train ride through the jungle.

We then had free time to road around as we liked and cross the many steel bridges which provide superb viewing platforms for the various falls.  As I've already said, the majority (80%) of the falls are on this side, so accordingly there are less to see here, so most just random views.  It was nice and gentle where we started off.

It was then time to head down for our boat trip.

We went along the river and actually almost underneath some of the falls.  The water was so heavy and cold, we just shut our eyes and screamed – it was absolutely amazing.  Most of us had waterproofs on (except Ian!!!!) but we still got quite wet although we were given superb rubber sacks to put cameras and shoes etc in.  

The boat then took us along the rapids to a landing station, followed by a 20 min slow drive through the sub-tropical jungle, but nothing to photograph.

Sadly we’re off to Rio tomorrow and then we fly home early evening on Saturday.  Not sure of internet access in Rio (may be hideously expensive) but hope I can post something.

Iguazu 1

Iguazu Falls are shared by Argentina and Brazil and the border between the two countries runs between them.  Both have created National Parks of the surrounding areas and both sides offer different, but equally spectacular views of the falls.

The run of 275 different falls is 2.7km long and 82m height and there are various walking circuits to take to get the best views.  So, after a short 2 hour flight from Bueños Aires, we went straight to the Brazilian side which, although has far less falls, provides a much better panoramic view of the whole site.  

The noise of the water crashing down is deafening.

Before we'd ventured out onto the boardwalk Derek had recommended I leave my big camera with him.  What a good idea, even my little compact got a little wet - but not as wet as Ian!

This picture confused me for a short while, I've never owned a Nikon DSLR.  Then it dawned on me, I was probably holding it for Stuart whilst he took this photo on my Canon.  

This little fellow is a coati, a relative of the North American Raccoon.  There were a lot of them around, no doubt eating scraps of food the tourists inadvertently dropped.

Off to our hotel to dry off - at least it's warm!
